Cities from the “Women and Drugs” thematic platform gather in Venice for a first workshop

The first workshop of the « Women and Drugs » thematic platform of the DC&DII project took place in Venice, in the beautiful location of the Venice Lido, on the 1st and 2nd October 2009.
Invited by IREFREA Italy, the cities involved in the thematic platform met to discuss the results of the collation of data on women and drug misuses, related policies and services in European cities.
Representatives from the Italian cities of Crotone, Venice and from the Veneto region attended, together with colleagues from the German city of Stuttgart and the British county of Nottinghamshire. Delegations at city level were completed by representatives of local services working with women drug users, either the SerT from the Italian cities or specialised treatment, harm reduction and care services from the other countries.
The workshop was an occasion to draw some common outlines from the data collected through  the questionnaires which had been collected from both cities and services during the period February-July 2009 and to present on the specific arrangements that the cities have put in place to deal with the specific problems of women drug users. An agreement was reached on the draft index of the European guidelines on women drug users which are to be produced by the end of the project.
